4/12-13/2024 Regional AAPT meeting at UVU – upcoming national AAPT Boston
Several Physics & Astronomy faculty, student and staff attended and participated at the 2024 Regional AAPT conference held this year at UVU. This annual conference typically occurs in Idaho/Utah on alternating years, however, the event experienced Covid-related cancellations since 2020. During this years’ business meeting, Rhett Zollinger was nominated to hold the AAPT conference in the spring of 2026 at the University of Utah. University faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and high school physics teachers make up the attendees at this event.
Several participants in this conference have ties to the U of U PandA department. Tamara Young and several SPS chapter members presented on the benefits of creating an SPS chapter in your organization, Adam Beehler presented a demo comparing the effect of gravity upon two different size rolls of paper, and Bonnie Anderson (U of U alumni and current UVU faculty) hosted a series of demos presented by undergraduate SPS students. Many other department members or people with links to the U were also in attendance.
The National AAPT 2024 summer meeting is planned for Boston, MA July 6-10, with travel grant funds available through May 24, 2024. Submissions for presentations sessions are closed, but poster session proposals remain open through May 23rd.
